Launch Details

Launch time is planned for July 13th at 9am PST.

This is a lean campaign with 3 Pledge Options.

Spire’s End would be delivered shortly after the campaign ends, while Hildegard will arrive late spring/early summer 2022 (tentatively).

Spire's End: Hildegard - July 13th on Kickstarter
almost 3 years ago – Wed, May 26, 2021 at 01:16:17 AM

Hildegard's Kickstarter Date is planned for July 13th! After over a year of development, I've decided it's finally time to make the leap! Hildegard is my ultimate passion project, and I've worked tirelessly to create a unique, narrative-driven experience.

Hildegard is a 1-2 Player Card Game Adventure set in the same world as Spire's End. It's a 4 chapter story told over the course of 400 story cards. For more details you can check it out at spiresend.com/hildegard. I have the current rulebook available, and a link to the first play-through (with Derrick at Canje Studios), and more! I’m proud of the work we've done so far, and lucky to have artists like Diego Frias and Sy Gardner creating beautiful characters and settings for the story. I can’t wait to show more!

To celebrate the launch date, tomorrow (Tuesday, May 25th), Diego (the games illustrator) and I will be doing a live Q & A and play-through over at Vorpal Board at 9PM eastern time. Join us!

More to come! I can't believe I'm doing this again!

Onward!
about 3 years ago – Wed, Feb 17, 2021 at 02:10:21 AM

I hope everyone is happy and healthy and at this point have had time to dig into the game! The response has been overwhelming and as warned...IF things went decently, I would get some other things cooking. I am finally at a stage where I can comfortably outline my tentative plans for this next year.

Second Printing: Spire’s End

For those interested, the 2nd printing is currently underway. Pre-Orders are available for the US and Canada. Games should be ready for delivery in May. But, the world needs to cooperate, delays can occur.

I am still working out overseas orders, the plan is to have Pre-Orders available in March. I will announce that once I know more.

For the most part, it’s the same game with a few minor corrections and rule clarifications. There is no new game content. If you would like to see the changes in detail, I have added them to the FAQ page here: https://www.spiresend.com/faq (in the general tab). I plan on putting the PDFs of the corrected cards on the site for download.

Spire’s End: Hildegard

Since last summer I have been quietly working on the next Spire’s End game. I do not have a Kickstarter Launch date set yet. Here are some of the details.

  • It takes place in the same world as the first game, characters and plot lines do overlap.
  • It’s a stand-alone game.
  • It’s primarily a solo experience.
  • The focus this time is more choices and simple/speedy encounters.
  • There will be more than twice the amount of cards (350-400), BUT the size of the cards will be smaller (poker-sized cards).
  • Hildegard is lighter in tone. It’s not a horror game. The best way I can describe is this would be my, “The Hobbit” while Spire’s End is my “Fellowship of the Ring”
  • The game is 4 Chapters long, each chapter will have 75-100 cards.

Hildegard: Chapter 1 Current Build

  • 95 Cards
  • 20 Encounters
  • 8 Endings
  • Chapter 1 is written and there’s been 1 editing pass. I am currently testing Chapter 1 and building Chapter 2. Chapters 3-4 have been outlined.

I’ve had a fantastic time working with comic book artist Diego Frías on illustrations for Hildegard! Here’s a very small peek at what we're doing! (See Below), and be sure to check out more of his illustrations on his Instagram!

Please note that Hildegard is a work in progress, and is subject to change as development continues. Case in point, The Custodian Expansion which I had announced in a previous update has been shelved for the time being.

If any backers have questions or concerns about the current Spire's End fulfillment please reach out to me directly instead of the general comment sections so I can better assist you.

Lastly, you may have noticed that the updates have winded down. They will continue to do so as my focus transitions to new projects. I hope you will continue this journey with me into Spire's End as the adventures continue!

Final Stretch!
over 3 years ago – Sat, Sep 19, 2020 at 01:30:20 AM

Over half of the orders have been delivered and the rest are on the way! If you haven’t gotten the game yet (UK/EU) you should shortly! I have loved hearing your tales from the Spire. It’s very rewarding after three long years to have this all happening at once! The response has been overwhelming!

I wanted to call out a few things that have caused a little confusion.

There is no Instructions Book included. The rules start with “Begin Here” on the first card and will lead you to the “Instructions Card Deck” near the end of the stack. The Instruction Cards have a scroll on the front and a bottle of red ink.

Another thing that is causing some hubbub is some aesthetic choices for better or worse.

The card backs are distorted and beat up on purpose. It’s a messy game and made to look as such. A splatter of red here, a streak of gray there- bleeding ink, by design. I think it’s best for the gaming experience to leave it at that…stop here if you’re with me.

TINY SPOILER WARNING…

If you are still reading this and are questioning a some odd color bleeding…maybe some realistic-looking anomalies on some card backs, I have listed some of the major contenders here…(but please don’t flip them over unless instructed!). There are reasons these cards are the way they are!

1, 2, 93, 97, 98, 99 and 105

"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling the transmission."

END OF SPOILERS

Lastly, there is a game rule that is tripping people up that I wanted to call out. This won’t make sense until you start playing the game but...

Action Cards (the small cards) are shuffled and reset after each encounter in the game. There are answers to a lot of questions about the Rules at the FAQ:

https://spiresend.com/game-rules/

Okay, that’s it for now! Hope you all have some fun with it!
